CITIZENS VOLUNTARILY SURRENDER MANY WILD ANIMALS
Recently, many people have voluntarily surrendered many wild animals to Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park.
The Center for Rescue – Conservation and Biological Development of Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park (Quang Binh) has coordinated with authorities to release 17 wild animals to their habitats.
Citizens voluntarily surrender many wild animals
17 individuals were released, including: 2 Asian palm civets; 1 asked palm civet; 3 Indochinese rhesus macaques; 1 stump-tailed macaque; 3 pig-tailed macaques; 3 Northern Indochinese box turtles; 3 Central Indochinese box turtles; 1 Keeled box turtle. Immediately after being released, the animals quickly adapted and integrated into the natural environment.
Mr. Le Thuc Dinh, Director of the Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park Center for Conservation and Development of Creatures, said that over the past time, the Center has actively coordinated with local authorities and functional agencies. including police, border guards and forest rangers in Quang Binh province, strengthen propaganda and mobilize people to hand over wild animals to the unit for care, rescue and re-release back to natural habitats, contributing to improving the biodiversity of Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park.
Efforts in advocacy have brought remarkable results. Within July 2022, the unit coordinated with the Public Security Department of Quang Hop Commune (Quang Trach District) and the Forest Protection Department of Tuyen Hoa District to receive 1 individual salamander (weighing 0.5 kg), 1 Northern yellow-fronted box turtle (weighing 0.9 kg) from Mr. Nguyen Van Hung (residing in Hop Ban village, Quang Hop commune, Quang Trach) and 3 Nui Vien turtles (total weight over 7kg) from a resident in Dong Le town (Tuyen Hoa district) voluntarily surrendered.
Mr. Le Thuc Dinh also said that since the beginning of 2022, the unit has received 31 individuals of endangered and precious wildlife. In which, most of them are from people voluntarily handing over to the authorities for care and rescue.
