On September 25th, the People’s Court of Hai Duong Province sentenced Dong Xuan Cong (born in 1980, residing in Kim Dinh commune, Kim Thanh district, Hai Duong) to 1 billion VND and Lo Van Tiep (born in 2003, residing in Nam Lau commune, Thuan Chau district, Son La) to 300 million VND for violating regulations on the protection of endangered and precious wildlife.
According to the indictment, because he liked to raise animals, Cong built a kennel to raise Pitbull dogs but later stopped. Afterward, Cong bought two tigers weighing 15kg each for 50 million VND from an unknown man on Facebook.
As agreed, at the end of August 2023, Cong received the two tigers and confined them in a house in Dai Duc commune. Despite having no knowledge of how to care for tigers, Cong raised them with the intention of making a profit. At the trial, Cong stated that he had no intention of using the tigers for any purpose other than raising them and selling them later.
At the beginning of April 2024, Tiep was hired by Cong to take care of the tigers. On May 4, 2024, while Tiep was feeding the tigers, he was suddenly discovered and apprehended by the authorities. The two tigers, weighing about 80kg each, were seized. Subsequently, they were handed over to the Wildlife Rescue Center under the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Hanoi.

Illegally raising wild animals not only violates the law but also has a serious impact on their health. In the natural environment, tigers need a large space to grow and survive.
