For centuries, the exploitation and consumption of wildlife have been a burning issue in society, harboring the potential for disease outbreaks and spread.
To raise awareness about the harmful effects of wildlife consumption, the talk show “Wildlife Consumption and Disease Risks” was held at the TRT Television Hall on June 14, 2024, with the participation of the following guests:
- Mr. Le Ngoc Tuan – Director of the Thua Thien Hue Provincial Forestry Sub-department
- Dr. Doan Van Minh – Doctor of Medicine, Traditional Medicine Department, Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy
- Dr. Nguyen Quang Tam – Master of Medicine, Traditional Medicine Department, Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy
Some perspectives on the current situation of wildlife consumption:
- Mr. Le Ngoc Tuan said: “Vietnam is recognized as one of the places with a very high rate of buying and selling wild animals and is a transit point for wild animals from Africa to countries in the region through all three routes: air, road, and sea.”
- Dr. Doan Van Minh shared: “There are many potential risks of infection or disease transmission because wild animals are a source of disease or can also be intermediate hosts of disease sources, and when we use them as food or medicine.”
