INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON WILDLIFE CONSERVATION IN TRADITIONAL MEDICINE
INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON WILDLIFE CONSERVATION IN TRADITIONAL MEDICINE
On April 14, the 2nd International Conference on Wildlife Conservation in Traditional Medicine was held in Mineola, New York. The Vietnamese delegation attending the Conference included Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Hieu – Wildlife Conservation Program Manager in Hue, Choice and Dr. Doan Van Minh – Doctor of Medicine at the Faculty of Traditional Medicine, Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy.
At the conference, presentations focused on traditional medicine methods for treating diseases as an alternative to wildlife products. In addition, the conference also discussed solutions to promote healing methods that are consistent with respect for harmony and sustainability, ethical and environmentally friendly healing.
The reality of consuming wildlife products was also discussed at the Conference. There is still illegal trade and use of wildlife products such as pangolin scales, rhino horn, tiger bone in traditional medicine stores in China, Vietnam, Indonesia, and some other countries.
In addition, the conference also mentioned that those who contribute to the extinction of endangered wildlife are not those who belong to the traditional medicine community. But they are the smugglers, farm owners, or traditional medicine practitioners who do not comply with the law and profit illegally from the trade in endangered wildlife.
