90 Rare and Precious Wildlife Species Return Home

On January 2nd, Vu Quang National Park (Ha Tinh Province) collaborated with the Hoang Lien Tourism and Wildlife Conservation Center – Hoang Lien National Park (Lao Cai Province) to release 90 rare and endangered wildlife individuals belonging to 14 species back into their natural environment.

The released species include: 4 stump-tailed macaques, 5 Assamese macaques, 2 red-faced macaques, 1 pig-tailed macaque, 10 Chinese cobras, 6 king cobras, 4 keeled box turtles, 2 northern yellow-headed box turtles, 10 impressed tortoises, 2 Spengler’s turtles, 2 Burmese pythons, 8 green pit vipers, 30 rat snakes, and 4 riverine geckos.

These individuals belong to Group IB (listed in both Vietnam’s and the world’s Red Book of endangered species) and Group IIB (included in the list of rare and endangered forest animals). They were handed over by Hoang Lien National Park to Vu Quang National Park as part of a cooperative program for wildlife rescue and release efforts.

Before being reintroduced into the wild, the animals underwent thorough health checks to ensure their ability to adapt and survive in their natural habitats. Additionally, the release areas were carefully selected to provide suitable living conditions for each species. This meticulous planning ensures that they can quickly integrate and thrive, contributing to the restoration of species populations within the ecosystem.

This activity not only helps preserve biodiversity but also raises public awareness about the importance of protecting rare and endangered wildlife. It serves as a testament to the relentless efforts of conservation organizations and authorities in combating illegal wildlife hunting and trading in Vietnam.
